While earning his undergraduate degree at Western Illinois University Garrett was a contributing member of the track and field team. Following his passion for sports, he went on to earn his Master’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport and Exercise Psychology. During that time he assisted in coaching the track and field team, and was able to publish his thesis, The Effects of Imagery on Intrinsic Motivation and Performance in Track and Field Athletes.
Garrett has coached high school cross country and track and field, with several of those athletes now competing at the Division I and III levels. He is a NSCA – Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, as well as a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer.
Garrett enjoys spending time with his wife Katie, and their families, as well as watching and playing rugby any chance he gets.
